Fine Tuning at I-44 Speedway

Day 2 of the POWRi West midget weekend sent us back to where the season started, I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma City, OK. Now that the Flying Tee Golf sponsored #24 had been tried and tested, Fischer Racing was ready to tackle the 1/5 mile dirt track (with a fresh set of brake pads) against a field of 20 cars.

The new BOSS chassis must be good luck... Hunter drew onto the pole position of the 1st heat for 2nd time this weekend! Showing off the new Flying Tee Golf paint scheme, Hunter kicked off the night on the podium. The setup was still a little loose, but moving up to the top groove kept the BOSS in 3rd place. With things looking up for Fischer Racing, the 3rd place finish qualified the #24 to start 9th in the A feature.

Hoping to learn from the previous night and improve results, our guest crew chief (Steve) returned to setup the car for the evening. Adjustments to the car allowed Hunter to run both the top and bottom lines of the track. Somewhere in first half of the race, Hunter noticed something wasn’t right with motor as power was decreasing, but not to the point where he should pull off the track. The cushion was the place to be, but our driver had to take the short way around the track with the handicapped engine. That was good enough to only fall back 4 spots to finish 13th overall. The team will soon install a Mychron data acquisition system to help diagnose issues like this. Data will supplant speculation in most cases. Speaking with several racers about the experience, a faulty battery is suspected as a potential cause. Anyone have battery recommendations?

Thanks again to Steve Gran and Eric Fenton for making the night possible. Fischer Racing was planning to hit some golf balls at the Flying Tee Golf on the Riverwalk in Jenks for Father’s Day, but cleaning and preparing the car for Texas took precedence. We will be at RPM Speedway in Crandall, TX and then Kennedale Speedway on 6/29 & 6/30 (for all of our Texas friends).
