Ramey Earning Stripes In New Division

OKLAHOMA CITY – For the 2016 season, a transition was in order for Sedalia, Mo. native Gunner Ramey. After racing in the restricted micro division for the past three years, the transplant to Oklahoma is now gaining experience in unrestricted action, both in the stock and outlaw classes. Ramey produced his first stock class top-ten in his first attempt this season, and hoped to follow that up with another this past weekend, but adverse track conditions and a rough outing in his heat race put that goal out of reach.

After the ninth-place finish on April 1, Ramey returned to I-44 Riverside Speedway over the weekend, competing against 31 other A-Class entries. Starting sixth in preliminary action, dropping back to eighth would not help his bid for a strong finish in the main event.

Forced to run in the B-Main for a shot to make the feature, Ramey performed much better this time around. Rallying up to fourth from seventh on the grid gave him the final transfer position into the main event.

Coming from the tail, Ramey had a long road ahead of him to reach the top ten. The deteriorating racing surface wouldn’t help matters, but regardless, he toiled on and moved the Impact Signs No. 28 through the field. As the fifth-mile oval began to take rubber, the forward progress slowed. In the end, Ramey advanced seven positions to take hard charger honors for the event, and a 13th-place result.

Ramey would like to thank Impact Signs Awnings & Wraps, Sure Coat Powdercoating, Rob Sneed Shorthorns, McKinney Construction, Ramey Dirtworks, Southwest Storage, 8760 Service Group, Rod End Supply, Factory Kahne Midwest, MYCHRONTOM, and Quick Engineering, as well as his family, friends, and fans for their continued support.

Ramey is next scheduled to compete on April 16 at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla. in the No. 28 600cc micro sprint entry.
