Felker Maneuvers from Sixth to Score POWRi West Win at I-44 Riverside

Felker Maneuvers from Sixth to Score POWRi West Win at I-44 Riverside

Inside Line Promotions – OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Sept. 23, 2014) – Andrew Felker powered to his second victory of the season last Saturday at I-44 Riverside Speedway.

Felker rallied from sixth to win the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget Series event in his family owned race car.

“It was good to get my family back in Victory Lane,” he said. “It was also nice to get BOSS Chassis a win. I definitely feel like we’re gaining momentum with this new car.”

The night kicked off with Felker advancing from fifth to third place in his heat race.

“The track was kind of slimy on the bottom and hard slick through the middle,” he said. “The car was pretty tight and I had a pretty stacked heat race. I raced hard with Kevin Ramey for a while and then I got by Alex Sewell on the last lap.”

That gave Felker the sixth-most points throughout the heat races and lined him up on the outside of the third row for the 25-lap feature.

“I took it easy the first couple of laps,” he said. “I let everyone sort themselves out. I picked them off one by one and got to third in the first five laps. Then on a restart the second-place driver went to the bottom in turns one and two and I drove around him. I then reeled in the leader. I was running the top in turn one and the bottom in turn two. I finally got to his bumper. He did a wheelie down the frontstretch and it gave me an opportunity to get on the outside of turn one and I crossed him over and drove under him in turn two.”

However, the caution waved following the pass for the lead and Felker was forced to restart second.

“It took a couple of laps to get back by him,” he said. “I got to the cushion in turn one and drove to the bottom in turn two and got by him in turns three and four.”

Felker made the race-winning pass just after the midpoint of the race.

“After that I clipped an infield tire and almost spun,” he said. “I was working through lapped traffic and got together with a car in turns three and four.”

Despite the close calls, he maintained the lead en route to the triumph.

Felker will return to action with the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget Series this Saturday at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla.
