Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (March 30, 2021) – Brenham Crouch powered to a career-best runner-up result behind the wheel of a midget last Saturday.

The second-place showing highlighted a stellar weekend during the 8th annual Turnpike Challenge as the Toyota Racing backed Keith Kunz Motorsports driver won a pair of heat races, garnered the podium performance and finished with two top 10s in three POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League feature starts.

“It was a good weekend and a step forward following the strong results from the previous week,” Crouch said. “I’m continuing to learn and the success is helping build my confidence in a midget.”

The opening round of the Turnpike Challenge rained out last Thursday before the weather improved for the remainder of the weekend. I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma City, Okla., hosted back-to-back nights on Friday and Saturday. Crouch won a heat race before placing a career-best eighth in Friday’s feature. He topped that the ensuing night by rallying from seventh to second in a heat race and closing the night with the second-place showing in the A Main.

“We had a hiccup or two the first night at I-44 that kept me out of the top five,” he said. “Night 2 was excellent. I could have been a little more aggressive with Buddy (Kofoid). That was the heaviest traffic I’ve ever been through. I think I ended up leading 18 laps. I bobbled off turn four and that was enough for him to get a run on me. I didn’t know he was there. We pulled even down the backstretch and he nosed me off where the rut was. I had to check up a little to keep from biking up. I was looking to get back by him into turn one and didn’t have enough momentum when I went for a slider. When we got back to traffic I got to him again. He threw a slide job on a lapped car. He pushed and I had to check up to stop from running into the back of him and then I pushed. That slowed me down enough for him to get away and I ran out of time to get back to him.”

The weekend concluded on Sunday with another heat race victory before a 16th-place result in the feature following an early race incident.

Next up for Crouch is the Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Hometown Challenge with the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series this Friday and Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. It will mark Crouch’s first time racing at the dirt oval.

“After last weekend’s success and learning what we have lately a podium is our goal,” he said. “We have two nights to learn the track so I’m looking forward to the next challenge.”
