Flud Pockets Pair of Wins and Five Podiums During Turnpike Challenge

Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (March 30, 2021) – Last weekend yielded two wins and five podium finishes in five feature starts for Frank Flud, who pushed his win total to a half dozen triumphs in the month of March.

Flud captured the Outlaw and Winged ‘A’ Class features on Saturday at I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma City, Okla., after he finished second in both the Outlaw and Non-Wing main events the previous night. The POWRi Engler Machine and Tool 600cc Micros 8th annual Turnpike Challenge weekend wrapped up with a third-place result in the Outlaw class on Sunday at Port City Raceway.

“None of us want to run second or third, but we were able to pull off two seconds Friday night,” he said. “We made it one better on Saturday for the money night. On Sunday we just fell short and missed it all around.”

Flud was also stout in heat race action all weekend, charging from seventh to third place in an Outlaw heat race and winning a Non-Wing heat from fourth on Friday. Saturday featured an Outlaw heat race win and a rally from fourth to second in the Winged ‘A’ Class heat. Flud maneuvered from fourth to capture an Outlaw heat race on Sunday.

The highlight of the weekend came on Saturday when Flud bested a talented field in both the Winged ‘A’ Class and Outlaw main events.

“In the ‘A’ Class race I got to run wheel to wheel with Trey Robb for several laps,” he said. “We battled for the lead back and forth with some slide jobs. We rubbed wheels a few times. We don’t mind doing it and know we can lean on each other. We battled pretty hard for the first three quarters of the race and then we had a late-race restart that he made pretty interested.

“In the Outlaw feature I had made a rookie mistake and a bolt fell out of the nose wing. Other than that it was good. We battled with Rusty Disinger for a couple of laps and then we were able to get clear of him and pull away.”

Flud was also in contention during both of his features on Friday.

“Joe B Miller was just better in clean air and we didn’t get to lapped traffic in the Outlaw race,” he said. “I grew up around Daison Pursley’s mom and dad and I’ve got to race with him. We put on one hell of a show in the Non-Wing race. We rubbed wheels a few times and had a few Hail Mary’s. Both of us came out smiling.”

Sunday’s Outlaw main event ended with a third-place showing, which was Flud’s 11th top five in 12 races this year.

“In the Outlaw game you’re able to get whatever tire combination you want,” he said. “I thought the track would get more abrasive than it did. We went the wrong direction with tire choice and that hurt.”

Flud plans on returning to Port City Raceway this Friday and Saturday when he will compete in the Outlaw, Winged ‘A’ Class and Non-Wing divisions.
